Anna Mani (अन्ना मणि): The First Female Meteorologist of India

Today, on 23 August 2022 Google Honored Anna Mani with a Google Doodle, on her 104th birth anniversary, thanks a lot to Google, Anna Mani was one of the India’s first Female scientist.
Her full name was “Anna Modayil Mani”, and she was one of the great Indian physicist and meteorologist.
Anna Mani (अन्ना मणि) made great contributions in meteorological instrumentation.
Mani was born on 23 August 1918 at Peermade Kerala, and died on 16 August 2001 at the age of 82 at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Anna Mani’s father was a Civil Engineer.
She was very dedicated to her work and never married, Anna Mani was associated with great scientific organizations such as –
International Association for Meteorology and Atmospheric Physics, International Solar Energy Society, Indian National Science Academy, American Meteorological Society, World Meteorological Organization.
Anna Mani was quite inspired by the nationalist movement, by freedom activities of Mahatma Gandhiji. One of the great things is, Anna Mani was only wearing khadi clothes.
Also, she was very fond of reading and learning new things. hence, once she asked her family to buy her a set of “Encyclopedia Britannica” instead of traditional Diamond Ring gift.
Anna Mani Educational Qualification:
B.Sc. Honors degree in Physics and Chemistry
Specialization in meteorological instrumentation at Imperial College, London.
Anna Mani Work:
Worked as Deputy Director General of Indian Meteorological Department
Anna Mani was Visiting Professor at Raman Research Institute (RRI).
Also, Anna Mani served as WMO consultant in Egypt
Anna Mani was associated with great organizations such as International Association for Meteorology and Atmospheric Physics, International Solar Energy Society, Indian National Science Academy, American Meteorological Society, World Meteorological Organization.
Few of her contributions are such as setting up a network of stations to measure solar radiation, also she contributed to setting up instruments manufacturing unit of Solar Energy, Wind Speed Meter for Wind Energy, and ozone measuring instruments. Mani also contributed to setting up a meteorological Facility and Instrumentation tower at India’s Thumba Rocket Launch Facility (TRLS) at Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, India Anna mani have contributed many research papers under prof C. V. Raman a renowned Indian Scientist, she died 16 Aug 2001 due to Stroke at her residing town Thiruvananthapuram.
